Rationalizing to Better Serve: Optimizing Human and Technical Home Support, with the Strategic Eye of a Former Doctor.
Faced with the abundance and complexity of available home care support, it is unfortunately all too easy for families and caregivers to feel overwhelmed, lost, or, worse, to equip themselves in an ineffective or disproportionate manner. My experience as a former doctor and head of department in Geriatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation has endowed me with a unique and rigorous analytical capacity to precisely assess needs and optimize every resource, whether human (personal assistance services) or material (assistive devices, medical equipment).
My mission as an autonomy coordinator is absolutely not to indiscriminately accumulate aid, but rather to rationalize it with a logic of therapeutic effectiveness and economic relevance. Based on my understanding of pathologies, their potential evolutions, and the true functional capacities of individuals, I can evaluate whether a specific assistive device is truly indispensable, or if a simpler, more intuitive, and less costly adaptation could suffice. I can determine if the hourly volume of a caregiver’s intervention is optimal, or if it could be adjusted to encourage greater autonomy and avoid « over-assistance, » without ever compromising the patient’s safety and well-being.
This approach, deeply inspired by clinical rigor and the efficiency observed in hospital settings, helps avoid the pitfalls of over-equipment (costly and sometimes counterproductive) or, conversely, under-equipment (a source of frustration and loss of autonomy). It ensures that every investment – whether it’s the acquisition of specialized equipment or the implementation of services – is relevant, measurable, and genuinely contributes to the long-term improvement of the person’s autonomy, comfort, and well-being. My role is to provide this global, strategic, and pragmatic vision, enabling families to make informed, economically viable, and, above all, truly effective choices for the quality of life of their loved one.
